Knowing her never say die mentality, that had to be the hardest and bravest of decisions.
Knowing when enough is enough when the weight of your country is on your shoulders and all eyes are on you is not easy. Yet this 24-year-old has done what many, including myself, struggle with--saying no to self-harm in whatever form or context it comes our way.
Not only that, she made a choice that would benefit the team and enable the younger members to shine unexpectedly. A great sign of leadership.
The team could have fallen apart, however they trained long and hard and with that in their stead and Simone and their coaches cheering them on, they shined!
So, Simone, we may never meet but I applaud your decision and I am praying for your improved mental health.
